Leopard Updates: DEVONthink, DEVONagent, DEVONnote

Finally, we have updated all editions of DEVONthink as well as DEVONagent and DEVONnote for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. And, we have added a few more improvements and new features. Read the news or download the updates. These updates are strongly recommended for all users already working with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard! Attention users of Mac OS X 10.3.9: All new releases require at least Mac OS X 10.4 or later!

Thinking We’re Picking Our Noses?

In the user forum, whenever someone asks for such features as: opening multiple databases simultaneously, Spotlight support, or the DEVONagent topics map; we referred to the nebulous version 2.0 of DEVONthink. Those features come with huge changes to the underlying architecture. We didn’t want to squeeze these in interim updates. And now many of you are waiting impatiently for it to arrive. But don’t think that we’ve spend the last year picking our noses! We have been developing a brand...

Tuesday Tip: Synchronzing two databases

At the moment, DEVONthink Pro does not come with an integrated mechanism for synchronizing two databases. However, Wooden Brain Concepts has created a third-party shareware application named ‘DevonSync’ that jumps in. Click here to visit the Wooden Brian Concept homepage and have a look yourself.

A frequent visitor

Some of the more attentive readers among you will remember that Bill, our always-on customer support, has moved to Indiana, USA, lately. But, even though he now lives in a (fully networked) log cabin someplace in the woods, he is by no means alone! When Bill looks up from his MacBook Pro, he’s often being watched by nice fellows like this one here. Isn’t this cool?

Black Friday Deals — An Unexpected Delay

Everyone who tried to access the Black Friday Deals page already may have wondered why it wasn’t switched on yet. And so, I missed to update the web site at midnight, but now all hot deal links are active as they should be! Happy shopping!...

Assign shortcuts to contextual menu items

The contextual menu of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard’s Finder is less cluttered than in earlier system releases. All additional items are now hidden in the “More…” sub-menu, unfortunately including the Automator workflows. This adds a lot of mousing or clicking to using your own Finder workflows, e.g., for adding files to your DEVONthink Pro database. But, no reason for acts of desparation: The freeware application Shortcuts allows you to equip any contextual menu item with your own keyboard shortcut.

We’ve set the Leopard free

In the last three weeks Apple kept many of us Mac developers pretty busy with all the last-minute changes and initial bugs in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard that affected our software. In our case, especially DEVONthink suffered temporarily from unexpected modifications. We’re optimistic that we’ve solved all known issues now and so we don’t want to keep you on hold any longer.
