Import your SMS messages and calls

Two weeks ago I have posted DEVONthink Pro importers for Adium, iChat, and Second Life chatlogs. If you are using Mira Software’s BluePhoneElite 2 to connect to your mobile phone, you may like these two new scripts that I have written this week. Import your SMS messages from the BluePhoneElite 2 message center as well as your call logs into any DEVONthink Pro database. I use this to add my SMS messages seamlessly to my other correspondance, from scanned letters...

Tuesday Tip: OCR images in-place

If you still have PDFs in your DEVONthink Pro Office database that needs to get converted to searchable PDFs (with OCR), you may find this new script handy. It converts all selected images that don’t contain text to searchable PDFs in-place. The original images it moves to a collection group where you can later delete them manually when everything went well. BTW: You can find even more scripts in our DEVONacademy.

An online storage service worth a look

Last week I came across an interesting backup and archival solution: JungleDisk. It uses Amazon’s S3 storage and makes it available as a local WebDAV disk. You can use it to make regular or incremental backups, or use it for longer-time archival, e.g., of your documents. And if you’re worried about your privacy: JungleDisk encrypts not only the transmission but also the files before uploading. The main difference compared to other online storage services is, however, that Amazon S3 charges...

Using del.icio.us as a bookmark manager

Brenda of Changing Tides talks about how she is using del.icio.us for bookmark management and how DEVONthink Pro helps here here, too. Whether one likes online bookmark management services such as del.icio.us including the de-facto publishing of one’s own web surfing profile, or not, it is a perfect method to have all bookmarks available at all times, in all browsers, wherever you go. Personally, however, I like the idea of tags compared to folders, but for quickly finding the bookmarks...

A nice email worth sharing

From time to time we get nice emails telling us that our software is actually of some use. We enjoy reading this because this is the energy that keeps us going. Here’s one that I’d like to share with you: […] I’ve been in the computing environment since the early 80s and have yet to encounter a better way to manage information than DevonThink. I sing it’s praises every time I retrieve a seemingly impossible to find bit of information,...

Do you archive your chatlogs?

Posted by mobile phone:When I archived all my digital stuff in these holidays and found a proper converter for Adium chatlogs missing, I wondered if other people don’t archive their chats? For me, electronic chat has almost replaced the telephone, at least in business. So here’s my question for you: Do you keep your chatlogs and which chat application do you use? P.S. This blog is now also mobile phone ready. In fact, this article was posted with my Sony-Ericsson...

Back from the holidays, and freshly organized

Hello everyone, we’re officially back from our winter holidays. I hope that all of you had a wonderful time! I used the quiet time to organize and archive all the stuff that collected … itself … in the last twelve months. Chat logs, scanned letters, web clippings, and, of course, email, email, email. In an Internet-based business like ours all this stuff quickly takes over all available space — and so attention. Fortunately I am working for just the right...
