DEVONthink and Snow Leopard’s Mail.app (2)

Mac OS X 10.6.1 introduced a problem with new installations of DEVONthink Pro Office (see an earlier blog article here). We have fixed this for the next release but you can also work around it manually right away:

  1. Using the Finder, create the folder in your home > Library > Mail > Bundles.
  2. Quit Mail.
  3. In the Terminal (found in Applications > Utilities), type the following, then hit the Return key:
defaults write com.apple.mail EnableBundles -bool YES
  4. In DEVONthink Pro Office go to Help > Install Add-ons and install the Mail plugin again. It will work this time.

Technically, Mac OS X 10.6.1 disabled third-party plugins by default. The next release of DEVONthink Pro Office will enable this automatically.

  1. Paul says:

In 10.6.1 html mail imported with the DT bundle has the images stripped out. Is this a DT thing, a Mail thing, or both?

  2. Check the Email preference pane in DEVONthink: are you allowing images to be downloaded?

  3. Paul says:

No, I didn’t but now I do (Preference Fatigue Syndrome). But, the real fix is that emls are imported with the text view/preview switch turned to “text view” and one must click it to see to images.

  4. Paul says:

Mail 4.2 under 10.6.2 disables the DEVONThink plulgin when Mail is first run. Seems to work ok if the plugin is reinstalled and Mail is relaunched.

  5. Jo Raber says:

DEVONthinkProOffice (DTPO) 2.0pb7 on MacOsX 10.6.2-after installation of DTPO
the Addon installation of the mail tool failed since “Library/Mail/Bundle” folder does not exist after Snow Leopard upgrade. Above solution fixed the issue.
    THANK YOU!
