We sync this is truly exciting! (spoken with German accent)

For quite a while we have been talking about adding sync capabilities to DEVONthink that allow to sync databases between multiple Macs. I am proud to announce that today we have distributed the first alpha to our team of beta testers with another (and last) alpha following early August before we start the public beta test in later August.

The sync technology allow you to synchronize all your databases directly between Macs on the local network as well as over-the-air using e.g. Dropbox, WebDAV, your own AFP file servers, as well as — later — iCloud. As soon as the beta team testing is over and all is working as expected we will add the new technology also to DEVONthink To Go replacing the current sync code completely.

As said, we’re in internal alpha phase now, so please stay tuned just a little longer. If you have a complex setup that could be valuable for the extensive testing we’re now doing, please email me to become part of the beta team (don’t forget your user forum name).

Any news on the Mac-to-Mac syncing? I want to take advantage of using a single database for home and work and would love to see this feature get some attention.

    8 months in alpha?

    Hi,
I’m very interested in this option (was amazed it was not in there yet) can you give us any more info what the status is?

**Sync should be a top development priority.**
    Please.

Mac to mac sync to would be great.
Even better if we can also sync to IOS devices.

1Password has a very good implementation via dropbox.
OmniFocus provide a free OmniSync service which also works great.

Now that other workhorse programs sync so effortlessly and so reliably, I really notice the hassle when I sit down to use DevonThink.
(I have a mac and a macbook, and I prefer to use the desktop when home.)

    Thanks,

This is such a professional and comprehensive Application.
But as a single person you would rarely use all this features.
Please make it work as a team software.
    Thanks a lot!

Have used Devonthink Pro on and off previously and have just acquired a 30 day trial licence for the latest Pro Office version which I’d use primarily for research : but want it synced across iMac, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro so iCloud would be WONDERFUL !!

  8. eboehnisch says:

@Neale: iCloud is complicated as iCloud does not know the concept of databases at all. But we support Dropbox and WebDAV starting with the latest public beta of our sync technology. Please see the front page of this blog.
