is there a way to have webdav access without a mac running devonthink being on at all times?

I have created a database, in sync with dropbox and would like to have my windows buddies accessing it without sacrificing my mac staying on 24/7.

is it possible?

Hi,

we really really need a date for the new version of DTTG 2 with cloud sync… at the moment DTTG is pretty much useless because you have to know in advance you want ot sync something. Sente bibliographic software and Evernote both show how it should/could be done. I really keen to switch back from Evernote to DTPro, but can’t until I know that I can grab stuff anywhere and access it on my ipad for reading without having to go back to base to sync. I’m in the process of undertaking some pretty big projects with a deadline in October – I’d love to commit to doing them in DTPro but can’t unless I KNOW that the DTTG version with cloud sync is coming out really soon

@ Daniel: This info is a few years old. DEVONthink 2 always stores all documents as separate files inside of its database package.

Hoi,

one question, in the posting you write: “Except for text and markup files all documents are stored as regular files inside the database package/folder. ” — is this still the case with the current version of DEVONthink?

I have a database with ideas as .txt files, and if that one would really crash, “most of your data” would not be good enough. I tried out creating a new database, created an .txt and .rtf file, then closed it and opened the contents of the database with “show package contents” and found both the .txt and the .rtf there — so did this change?

Das ist vollkommen richtig.
Als Anwalt oder Steuerberater oder Entwicklungsing. ; etc sieht das verständlicherweise
genau so aus. Hier gibt es auch deutliche Vorteile von Devonthink. Jedoch könnte man devonthink für ” andere Nutzer” attraktiver machen.

Wenn man den Softwaremarkt kennt und über eine lange praktische Erfahrung diesbezüglich besitzt sind viele
Dinge offensichtlich.

Trotzdem ist devonthink natürlich eine hervorragende
Software.

@ Nick: Natürlich können Sie problemlos Ihr eigenes NAS für den Sync verwenden. Und es gibt viele Anwendungsbereiche, in denen natürlich die Daten komplett auf iPads synchronisiert werden müssen, da hier kein Onlinezugang existiert (z.B. in Gerichtssälen). Schreiben Sie mir doch bitte eine E-Mail, wie Sie sich den idealen Sync vorstellen, eventuell deckt sich das ja mit unseren Plänen für zukünftige Versionen.

Hallo,

devonthink ist eine sehr nützliche Software.
Man sollte jedoch tiefer über die zu verwendende Sync
Möglichkeiten, etc. nachdenken.
Im Gegensatz zu Evernote wäre es interessant, wenn die
Anwender über ein persönliches NAS ihre eigene
Sync cloud betreiben könnten, wobei der sync zeitgenau
erfolgt. DATEN, die beispielsweise annotiert werden
sollten in einer bestehenden Ordnerstruktur an ihren vorigen
Platz einsortiert werden . Der Sync muss nicht nach ursprünglichem Verständnis erfolgen. Das bedeutet Datenbank
A muss beispielsweise nicht vom Rechner auf ein Smartphone bzw. IPAD gespiegelt werden. Die Benutzeroberfläche könnte
vereinfacht werden.

Eine zeitgemäße Anpassung der Software und der damit
verbundenen Technologien ist hier unabdingbar.

@ Adam: Maybe your router is blocking the communication. Please try to create an ad-hoc from the Wi-Fi menulet on your Mac and connect to it from your iOS device. Does the sync work now? It it does it’s your router.

Over a year later and nothing has changed??!!??

I am having the same exact problem as Albert. I actually had to delete To Go on my iPad, redownload it and start over. Annoying!!

I am also having a problem with folders being duplicated and triplicated.

Hmm. I followed the directions — put things in the “Mobile Sync” folder, go to app, select sync … then here’s the hangup. I see my computer on my network, when I tap (on the phone / in-app), nothing happens.

What else do I need to do?

You can import starred items by subscribing your own google reader feed:

1. make your starred items public
2. subscribe the feed with DT but add “starred?n=500″ to the feed address and change the 500 to your number of articles (or greater)

PopClip:
– great initial concept.
– super extendable through extensions
– extremely responsive developer

What I love most about the PopClip/DEVONthink combo is that it is just this tiny bar with the tiny icon that can be used content to the big sorting beast. Yes, I know that the context menu can do it too but it is less elegant.

Thanks for this PopClip extension.

I downloaded this clip a week ago. It works well, but it’s also very confusing: it’s actually 2 popclips: clip and search. And the icons are both so small, and so similar (due to their smallness), that it’s hard to make out the diffence. Is there some way we could load just one? I’d only use the “clip” one, and the search one just causes unnecessary visual confusion.

I should have mentioned, I am using PDFReader on my iPad. The problem I have is that I can easily open files outside of DTG in PDFReader, but the app requires me to move the files outside of the inbox to edit them and I cannot figure out how to move them back so that I can get them into DTG and then later sync with DTP. Any suggestions?

I am in a pinch here. Just dropped $200 on DevonThink Pro and DevonThink To Go, thinking I could use the tool to annotate the large number of PDFs I deal with on a regular basis. While I have found away to annotate them outside of DTG, getting them back into DTG from my annotation software is not working. Are there certain annotation software packages that work better then others for this task? I need something until DTG can handle this on its own.

@ Roger: We have users with destroyed databases every week even though they’ve been careful. Dropbox just isn’t designed for this. Our sync technology places the data on Dropbox in a much more flexible way.

@eboehnisch. To clarify are you outlining a scenario where the database file has been completely uploaded from Machine A and Machine B then comes along and tried to use it concurrently? If so, I understand the concern. However, what if it’s a single user that is not using the database concurrently.
