Activity Panel? I just downloaded DevonThink Personal 2.3.4 from the Mac AppStore. Reference to a new “Activity Panel.” But I see nothing on the apps menu that shows an activity panel, nothing on the screen, nothing in on-line support documentation … nothing, nothing. The only evidence I see of the Activity Panel is your release 2.3.4 documentation. What am I missing?

Yes, this sync update can’t come soon enough… my DTTG is paralyzed now by a large file I am stuck with that crashes my sync process every time (and keeps me from syncing anything else).

This is nice, thank you. I love the Tuesday Tips.

For users who want to list also new tweets in the same group, they will find, that currently it is not possible to list two different ‘kinds’ (html page’ for feeds and ‘bookmark’ for tweets) in one smart group and would therefore create a 2nd smart group.

My solution to this: All my different groups for unread news from feeds and tweets are collected in one main group called “feeds + tweets” anyway and the only kind of documents in there are ‘html page’ and ‘bookmark’.
So to list these in one smart group according to the Tuesday Tip my criteria for the smart-group are:
- search in: “feeds + tweets”
- unread is: on,
- Kind is NOT: ‘property list’ (… as plist-files are not in that folder. One could also choose PDF or image or audio etc instead.)

I too am very eager to hear when this is going to be available. I’ve had to stop using DT completely because I need docs synched between iPad laptop and desktop. I’ve switched to just using Dropbox and good old fashioned folders.

I’ve struggled for several hours with the Sente to DevonThink script and have to say that I can only get it to work with one reference at a time.

1) I had an attachment disappeare. It looked like the PDF might have been extracted from the library and placed in DevonThink, because the disappearance happened after deleting the copy from DevonThink. I was able to re-attach a backup of the PDF but, of course, my notes were henceforth orphaned from it (i.e. highlighting gone etc.)
I’ve tried avoiding all this by making an unsychronised test copy of my Sente library with all the attachments in a folder outside the library. But I won’t be able to put this experiment to any long term test because:
2) Any attempt at sending multiple references is met with an error that there are more ‘UUIDs’ than ‘attachment lists’. I’ve optimised my library and still this happens.

Any further news on this? Very, very, very keen to sync the DBs across my “desktop” mac and the “server” mac. The server mac’s on all the time allowing the family to dig into the data store, whilst everything gets uploaded on the desktop end.

@Robert: I have just added a comment to ticket #335475. It’s definitely the PDFKit in OS X that garbles the PDF as soon as you change it. Same happens with these files when you open and save them in Preview. Not much we can do here as this ball’s in Apple’s yard it seems.

I have today looked into the ePub ebooks again and found some quite significant problems (e.g. they won’t validate against an ePub checker). I have corrected the problems and also looked at the Calibre command line times. It was, actually, quite easy to add an additional build step for a conversion to the .mobi format and so I have added support for the Kindle, too.

@Ed: Customer service from DEVONtechnologies – if you were ever in need of it, you wouldn’t make such a premature accusation – which btw. gives a lot of insight into your peoples skills. Isn’t that much worse for thee?
Personally, I could find a lot of reasons to snub Amazon.

@Administrator: IMHO epub is the way to go (for now at least). That being said, I wouldn’t mind to be able to read epub and DjVu (and even mobi) inside DEVONthink.

DTPro Office 2 crashed twice just after opening the scanner plugin. Not seeing iPhone 4 in list of devices. Not ready from prime time surely.

The image capture window comes up after going to file and then import and I can do all the configuration stuff like setting the dpi value, adjusting brightness etc etc. But when I hit scan, an error message pops up saying that the document can not be scanned.

@Ox: Mysterious indeed. Until now I would say that it happens only after using “Make editable” bookmarklet in Chromium. But then I tryed to edit this very page in Safari and resulting PDF has only background without any text (the same happens in Chromium too).

That is very mysterious. You say you get the same result no matter what you print from. Try making a plain TextEdit document and printing that to PDF. Do you still get the issue? If so, it might mean that something is wrong with your OS X’s “Print to PDF” feature, although I’ve never come across such a problem myself.

Seems like this only works on iPhone. On iPad no app. will allow export to DTTG. It simply doesn’t show. Reinstall didn’t help.

@Ox: I use the same procedure Ox, and no, “Kind” column in Dt is not too narrow to fit the whole “PDF+Text”. It is possible to select text in such PDF file, but when I try to copy it, I get bunch of “␣” signs instead.

- You should be seeing “PDF+Text”. This is my process: Find a page, edit out the crud, Cmd+P, “Save PDF to DEVONthink PRO” from the PDF menu in the bottom left, and I get a “PDF+Text” file in Dt. I even tried it again to verify that it says “PDF+Text” for me. And yes, the files are searchable. Have you checked that your “Kind” column in Dt is not too narrow to fit the whole word?

@eboehnisch: No, I just print what is left on the screen after I use the “Make editable” bookmarklet provided here. However the results are the same when I use PrintWhatYouLike, Printliminator or Print Friendly bookmarklets/services.

I have used it with a project I worked on. It’s very, very good and flexible (no need to reinvent the wheel).
