DEVONthink To Go 2.2 with Spotlight support and more

DEVONthink To Go and Spotlight

DEVONthink To Go 2.2 is now available with Spotlight support. Find your documents from anywhere on your iOS device simply by swiping down from the top of the screen. The update automatically processes all present databases for Spotlight and keeps the index current in the background. All background task such as (re)indexing, purging, or synchronizing show their progress in a nice unified activity display and block the user interface less often. So you’ll always know when something’s going on. Other improvements...

Tuesday Tip: Quick Search in DEVONthink

There are times when you’re in need of searching your DEVONthink databases but don’t want to switch out of your current application or space. In System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Services > Text, there is a service named DEVONthink Pro: Lookup… This will be active when you have some recognized text* selected in a document. Selecting the service from the current application’s menu > Services will open a full search window with the search already completed! Adding a...

Tuesday Tip: Hotkey for toggle menus

A recent Twitter post asked a question about turning on and off the WebSharing server in DEVONthink Pro Office. It was assuming a need for an AppleScript or Keyboard Maestro routine. Well, it’s not AppleScriptable (outside of UI scripting, which I don’t advocate) and Keyboard Maestro is more than is needed for this task. Open System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts and select App Shortcuts. Click the Plus (+) button and select DEVONthink Pro Office in the Application dropdown. (If...

Tuesday Tip: Deleting from search results

When using DEVONthink’s search features, the results are handled a bit differently than browsing the database. The results are insulated from accidental deletion by default. So what if you want to delete something from the search results? Here are three options… Right-click the file and choose Move All Instances to Trash from the context menu. With the file selected, hold the Option key and choose Data > Move All Instances to Trash. With the file selected, press Command-Option-Delete. You should see the Location...

DEVONthink To Go 2.1.7: Usability and automation enhancements

Version 2.1.7 of DEVONthink To Go has just passed Apple’s review. It adds an option to clear the global inbox and makes the grid view available on all devices. The grid view lets you browse your document collection with larger previews and organize them with drag-and-drop, similar to the announced iOS 11. You activate the grid view by tapping the item count button of a group or by swiping right. The update also improves the decluttering service and enhances URL command...

Manually update DEVONthink if it “crashes” on launch

macOS Sierra Logo

Yesterday DEVONthink began to no longer launch for some people. The issue is related to an expired Apple provisioning profile and already hit many other applications earlier this year. Apple now provides profiles with a longer life period. This doesn’t do away with the problem forever but at least delays its next occurrence. If, for whatever reason, you didn’t update to the latest version the application is no longer accepted by macOS. Unfortunately, the operating system pulls the fuse already...

DEVONthink To Go 2.1.5 was first with an update, today it’s the turn of DEVONthink, DEVONagent, and DEVONnote to receive an overhaul. DEVONthink Pro and Pro Office 2.9.12 allow you to copy a universal URL for databases. Previously item links were only available for groups and documents. Link to other documents or to resources such as images and CSS files from Markdown documents with absolute paths too. Zoom or rotate images with trackpad gestures, set a reminder to a custom date, and access the...
