OS X El Capitan updates for DEVONthink & DEVONnote

OS X El Capitan is out and DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.8.7 add some necessary changes for it. In addition to this we’ve overhauled the built-in synchronization both between Macs and from Mac to iOS. Importing or indexing files is up to twice as fast as in previous versions and DEVONthink 2.8.7 groups attachments and cross-links them when taking over notes from Evernote. Other improvements include more comfortable navigation within PDF documents, better PDF printing, and fullscreen support for videos from web views....

Ready for El Capitan: DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.8.6

Markdown with images in DEVONthink

OS X El Capitan became just available as public beta. Right in time, DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.8.6 bring important compatibility changes for it. In addition, DEVONthink 2.8.6 supports images referenced in Markdown documents. When importing Bookends references, DEVONthink imports their keywords too. PDF text annotations created by other applications keep their appearance. They are only restyled as soon as you edit them with DEVONthink. For Calendar events dropped into rich text documents both DEVONthink and DEVONnote add a back link, too....

Tuesday tip: Don’t use DEVONthink as a junk drawer

Sometimes, people do indiscriminate dumps (import or index) into DEVONthink or DEVONnote, imagining it to be a Finder or Spotlight replacement. This is really no more truly effective than the junk drawers we all inevitably have at home. And it leads to more false positives in searches and use of far more resources than it needs to. Searching for a AAA battery in the junk drawer is far harder than it needs to be. Even trying to open that drawer, with screwdrivers...

DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.8.5

Web sharing to Windows 8.1

E-Books, either as PDFs or ePub, establish themselves more and more for technical literature. Starting with version 2.8.5 DEVONthink indexes ePub and iBooks books natively and lets you convert them if you need to. Better annotations make working with PDFs more comfortable. And the faster and more secure web server lets you work better together with your coworkers stuck on Windows. The maintenance update for all editions of DEVONnote and DEVONthink come, of course, with many more little features to make your...

Save yourself lots of clicks with DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.8.4

Indexing documents with DEVONthink Pro

DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.8.4 are available. They let you move new documents into your databases more quickly. Save yourself a lot of now superfluous clicks by dragging files or folders to the application with the ⌘ Command modifier key pressed. It imports them and trashes their originals in one go. The new release also enhances smart groups, supports new file types, and heavily improves querying databases via AppleScript. The applications now retain tags when splitting documents and inform more in detail about the progress of lengthy tasks....

DEVONthink To Go 1.5.5 with bug fixes

DEVONthink To Go on iPad

Today our update to DEVONthink To Go 1.5.5 became available in the App Store. The new version fixes e.g. crashes connected to broken databases on the Mac or to exporting data to the iTunes document folders (emergency export). For example databases without a valid UUID (universally unique identifier) could crash DEVONthink To Go. Update your copy from within the App Store app on your device or through iTunes. DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.8.3, which we’re released last week, also fix an issue with synchronizing items moved into...

DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.8.2

Indexing documents with DEVONthink Pro

We have just released DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.8.2 into the wild. DEVONthink 2.8.2 fully supports indexing files and folders stored in iCloud Drive. An additional script indexes all user-generated folders on iCloud Drive without manually adding folders or documents to the database. You can install it with a single click from the built-in Support Assistant. DEVONthink 2.8.2 also indexes and searches your Scapple documents. New preference options store an author name that the app reuses in various places where you add or create metadata. You can set...

Ready for Yosemite: DEVONagent 3.8.2 and more

DEVONagent Pro on OS X Yosemite

OS X Yosemite is peeking around the corner. Today we’ve released updates for DEVONagent Pro through Lite that get them ready for Apple’s newest iteration of its Mac operating system. In addition version 3.8.2 searches Baidu, the #1 search engine in China, and the Pro edition lets you easily share web content. Scanners in version 3.8.2 are more accurate and the new version better filters links to social media, e.g. retweets. We’ve posted an update for DEVONthink and DEVONnote, too. Version 2.8.1 fixes a few more incompatibilities, works...

Ready for Yosemite: DEVONthink & DEVONnote 2.8

OS X Yosemite Sharing Extension

OS X Yosemite, the newest incarnation of your Mac’s operating system, is about to be released. Version 2.8 prepares all editions of DEVONthink as well as DEVONnote for it with user interface adjustments and compatibility fixes. DEVONthink 2.8 also comes with a brand new sharing extension. It allows you to clip text and web addresses from other Mac apps with a single click in case you like this better than using drag-and-drop. Of course we’ve added some more features, starting with a script for...

DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.7.7

DEVONthink Export Menu

DEVONthink is the document and information manager for the Mac. Version 2.7.7 recognizes Apple’s new and shiny Swift source code files, retains more metadata than before when you export documents, and prefills the Save panel with tags for you. Many more small interface improvements make using the app easier. DEVONthink also indexes external folders faster and supports OS X Mavericks tags based on former labels. For HTML pages it uses Open Graph metadata. The Pro and Pro Office editions come with further...
