(Productivity)²

Very often, one software application doesn’t cover all workflows needed to accomplish a task or complete a project. This is especially true in science where researchers collect, organize, and process huge amounts of information. One application we regularly hear of is Eastgate’s Tinderbox. The researchers among our customers use DEVONthink for collection and organization, and then switch over to Tinderbox for creatively joining the pieces to form the groundwork for their research. For example Asaf Keller, one of our true...

Tuesday Tip: Out with the old, in the with new

Global Inbox

The global inbox is ideally used as a place to store quickly captured data that will be filed later. Many times we’re quickly grabbing things of interest to us, but not related to any project. We make a vague mental note about filing this information later, but then forget about it as we find ourselves following other interesting ideas. Some time later we slow down and realize our global inbox has gotten out of hand. If you don’t have the time to sort the...

If you want to keep your messages in an easier to handle file format one option is to ‘print’ them to PDF and keep the PDF instead. Converting hundreds or even thousands of messages manually is a painful process, however. But, as long as Apple hasn’t killed Mac automation, there’s a solution for this: First enable the alternate email view (see Preferences > Email) or convert the messages to rich...

Archive from Pocket and Feedbin to DEVONthink

Pocket app icon

Forum user gnbio has created a cool workflow for archiving Pocket and Feedbin articles in DEVONthink Pro and DEVONthink To Go: I had been looking for a way to accurately convert articles read in Pocket & Feedbin/RSS to PDF and archive for future reference. This has been particularly useful for how-to articles, longform content and legal knowhow (for my day job). The beauty of this automated method is that I have an instantly searchable archive of content available on iOS and macOS...
