3rd and last public beta of new scanner and camera plugin

We have fixed another couple of bugs in our new scanner and camera support plugin (see the last posting here), e.g. with recognizing iPhones, multi-page scans on certain devices, and putting the computer to sleep with the scanner interface open. So if you are a DEVONthink Pro Office user and own a scanner other than a Fujitsu ScanSnap (we support this using a different technique), a digital camera, iPhone, iPod, or iPad with a camera please download the 3rd public beta...

It’s Beta Time Again

Quite a few of you have already contacted us and asked if we are planning an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad companion to DEVONthink. Our answer always was: ‘Stay tuned.’ Starting today it is: ‘Yes, and it’s already in beta test’. I have just seeded DEVONpad 1.0 beta 1, for iPhone and iPod touch, to our closed beta tester team. That means that all major features have been implemented and it’s time now for bug fixing, performance enhancements, and interface polishing....

Do you own an iPhone?

It’s not a secret that we are also developing … something … for the iPhone (and the iPod touch). We are now getting near the point that laboratory testing is no longer enough. We need feedback from real users — like yourself! So, if you are a DEVONthink Pro Office user, own an iPhone, and would like to do some beta testing for us, please email me. Seat numbers are very limited due to the ‘provisioning’ procedure that is required...

Public Beta 5 Now Available

Just a quick note that we have just released DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.0 public beta 5 with new features, e.g. a new iPhone web application, many improvements (also under the hood), and bug fixes. Please read more about the update here. Addition: To see the iPhone web app in action, click here to view a short screencast I have made this morning.

Little America

This weekend I watched for the first time ever an American Football game, the Ludwigsburg Bulldogs vs. Albershausen Crusaders (regional top league). My daughter joined their cheerleaders team last year and she had her very first public appearance this Saturday. It was a hell lot of fun: great music, the cheerleaders performances, good barbecue, cheap (of course American) beer, and me trying to follow what goes on on the field — reading the basic rules of the game in Wikipedia on...

Website now iPhone compatible

Just a quick note that our web site is now better compatible to Safari on the iPhone or the iPod touch. Due to memory limitations on these devices, the mobile edition of Safari has restrictions on the size of images which led to an incorrectly scaled background. It’s displaying correctly now. We won’t make a specialized iPhone variant though as this is no web app. We have an iPhone AJAX for DEVONthink Pro Office, though.

Tuesday Tip: Access your data from your iPhone

Now you got your brand new iPhone 3G and you want to access your database also on-the-go? Some may not have noticed but the DEVONthink Pro Office web server already comes with an iPhone-optimized AJAX application that lets you connect to your database, search for documents, and view them directly in Safari Mobile. You only need to keep DEVONthink Pro Office running, activate its web server, and, if you want to access it from the public Internet, set up port...

Poll: Do you use an iPhone or smartphone?

With all the buzz about the old and new iPhone as well as other smartphones and the the still-existing Palm devices, I wonder how many of you are actually using them for more than just a super-calender, address book, and mobile web browser? Do you take notes, make outlines, even store files on them like on a USB stick? Vote here.
