Time to shut down for a day

For most people who are like us, being without a computer and Internet access, is unthinkable. We are already getting very uneasy when our DSL line is dead for one, two hours. Can you survive for 24 hours without your computer? To be honest, I think I can. And so I have just signed up for Shutdown Day. Can you, too?

I don’t see the point. Am I addicted? Sure. Just like I’m addicted to the microwave, the stove, refrigerator, electricity, and on and on. Can I go without them for a day? Probably. But they’re tools to be used, so what exactly is the purpose of not using a computer for 24 hours?

  2. Well, some people are truly addicted in a different fashion that they use a stove or electric light. Even more interesting would be for some people to stay away from their Blackberries for a day. The question is not whether we can work a day without a computer (we cannot) but if we are still able to keep outselves busy/productive/happy without it. That is the true face of addiction. Personally, I am not addicted. I like my Mac, but it’s still just a tool — like it should be.

    Just a typo:
“To be honest, I think can.”
    Should be:
“To be honest, I think I can.”

    And I think I can, too. 😉

  4. db: Right, corrected! Thanks!
