Tuesday Tip: Use the plain text view

DEVONthink 2.0 uses QuickLook for displaying file formats that it cannot show directly, e.g. Pages, Numbers, or .eml email documents. While this allows DEVONthink to display all files for which a QuickLook plugin is available, many previews don’t allow you to select text, e.g. for copying it. This is where the plain text view comes in. Switch to the plain text view using the plain text view icon in the document’s navigation bar if available.

Update: As some people have problems finding this button, here’s a screen shot that should make it a bit clearer:

Plain Text Navigation Bar Button

Why haven’t I posted a screen shot right from beginning? Because I posted this from my iPhone on-the-go and I had no Mac near me *smiles*

Sorry, but I don’t really get this. I think you mean within the content-in-its-own-window view – not for example, within the three-pane or split views, where the standard toolbars are for folders. But to get to the own-window view, you have to double-click on the content… which opens the application. I’m confused.

No, I also mean in the three-pane or split views. The navigation bar is the bar with the little icons right above the shown document content. Point with the mouse on any of the icons to easily identify the plain text/preview icon.

What a great hint. I have always been annoyed about the fact that I could not mark e-mails.
