Tuesday Tip: Integrate Papers 2 with DEVONthink

You use Mekentosj Paper 2 but also like Steven Berlin Johnson’s ‘snippet approach’? Power user Rob Trew has written a small script that does not add the whole file from Papers to your DEVONthink database but only the summaries and notes.

As Papers is not scriptable, Rob’s script directly accesses Paper’s SQLite database. Rob also offers more scripts such as ones offering even tighter integration of Sente 6 with DEVONthink (see last week’s Tuesday Tip).

I’ve been looking for more integration between Papers and DEVONThink in my workflow, so thanks for this. However, when I run this script, it doesn’t recognize my library, which I believe is in the default location. Suggestions??

  2. Eric says:

@Gail: Could you please let me know where exactly on your hard disk your Papers library is located? And which version of Papers do you use? Please email me at eboehnisch(at)devontechnologies.com

hello, it’s great integration just what i need. I already follow your instruction, but when i try to locate my pdf file to finder (right click on devonthink pro file), but it goes to my original file instead of my papers library, since i didn’t delete original file after it was imported to papers. Can you help me ? thanks

  4. Eric says:

Please contact the author of the script directly for support with the script.

  5. Mark says:

Anyone have any idea how to contact Rob Trew — this script was hosted at mac.com, which is now gone.

  6. Unfortunately we do not have any contact details for Rob, too.

  7. Kevin says:

    Hi all,

I found the script on Softpedia. Hope this helps

  8. eboehnisch says:

@Kevin: Cool, thank you! I’ve uploaded the script to our own server and changed the link in the posting accordingly!

  9. Papers 3 is now scriptable. Based on the scripts by Rob Trew, I’ve [written a script](http://support.mekentosj.com/discussions/questions/105370-scripting-support-in-papers#comment_34365769) that exports all notes & highlight annotations of all publications selected in Papers 3 to DEVONthink.

Hope this is useful to some of you! Best, Matthias
