Dashboard widget talking gibberish?

If you are using the DEVONthink Jot Dashboard widget to quickly take notes of text copied e.g. from web pages you may have encountered a bug that saves all text as an HTML entity gibberish. While geeks may like this, others find it, well, unreadable. If you do, too, here’s an updated widget that fixes this problem. It will also be part of the next release of DEVONthink, which will be a really cool update. You will like it.

EasyFind and XMenu updated

Today we have updated EasyFind to version 4.7.2 and XMenu to 1.9.3. We have added minor new functions, e.g. the possibility to drag search results with modifier keys pressed to the Finder to move, copy, or alias them. EasyFind also copes better with encodings and shows its name in Services menu entries. XMenu can be added to the startup items from its preferences, now, too. Click here to download the new versions.

Gina Trapani about the perfect digital filing system

Mac super-blogger Gina Trapani again mentioned DEVONthink in her latest Work Smart 2 video podcast as the solution for the paperless office on the Mac when you don’t just want to store scanned papers but also find them again: Scanning your stacks of paper to digital documents is a huge project, and you want to make sure all that information will be as easy to find on your hard drive as it is in your filing cabinet. In this week’s...

This time for real: Welcome, Jon and Alan

Some among you may have discovered that we were presumably not that interested in Jon’s ZX Spectrum BASIC programming skills. But, in fact, Jon Hjelle did really join our team, just like Alan Edwards. Jon Hjelle, who lives in Opelousas (Louisiana, USA), is our new iOS developer. He takes over the DEVONthink To Go development from myself and is already getting into the source code and bug reports. He is also already working closely with Rob Rix, who is working...

Tuesday Tip: Save as PDF to DEVONthink To Go

If you are using your iPad a lot and want to save any web page to PDF and save it to DEVONthink To Go, you might want to have a look at Save2PDF. A tip from our forum user whshep: With Save2PDF, I can get most of that work done without leaving the iPad. I choose “Print” in Mobile Safari, which saves the web page as a PDF and opens it in Save2PDF. I can then rename it (if necessary),...

For those of you waiting for DEVONthink to appear on the Mac App Store: The wait is over! This weekend Apple has approved DEVONthink Personal which is now available as ‘DEVONthink’ on the Mac App Store. Click here. Welcome, Jon!

Just a quick note that we have today welcomed Jon Hjelle from Louisiana, USA, in our team. Jon completes our development team as engineer for Palm OS and Windows Phone 7. Welcome to DEVONtechnologies, Jon! Addendum: It seems that we overestimated Jon’s ZX...
