Easier scanning with DEVONthink

DEVONthink’s new scanning function unified the various scanning options of previous versions and made paper capture available also for users of the Personal and Pro editions. But users are still missing some of the more advanced options, for example convenient capturing of documents with multiple pages. DEVONthink 2.4.2, which we have released today, supports the option “Combine into single document” whenever you scan as PDF or TIFF. Just name the document and start scanning; DEVONthink creates a new document for you that you just have to send to your database when you’re done with all pages.

But, of course, we’ve stuffed more into the update to version 2.4.2 for all editions of DEVONthink as well as DEVONnote: from support for OS X 10.8’s Calendar and Reminders applications to — listen up, students! — much faster and more reliable integration with Bookends (11.3.3 or later). I have Devonthink Pro Office and use it with a Canon P-150 documentscanner.
Will these new features allow me to scan overly long receipts? (I am currently not able using encolosed software that came with scanner)

    Keep up the good work!

DEVONthink Pro Office works with all scanners compatible to OS X’s Image Capture architecture. So you’ll best simply try it. You can download DEVONthink Pro Office and try it out for free.

It would be useful to have the same “combine” option available to the Automator “OCR Items” (i.e. merge action executing at the end of the OCR on the items processed)…I need to automatically merge several images I OCR into Devonthink in a single PDF+Text. At the moment it produce a PDF+Text per image. – I know I can “select all” and then “merge”, but if it could be done automatically…
I’m not combining the original images to a single PDF(no text) before, then OCR the large single PDF(notext), because it takes a very long time for Devonthink first exports all pages to TIFF files, then OCR them, and then reimports to a PDF+Text…
