DEVONthink & DEVONnote 2.6: Welcome, Mavericks!

Formatted NoteA few weeks ago Apple announced OS X 10.9 “Mavericks” and so here’s our first release of DEVONthink and DEVONnote optimized for the upcoming new version of your favorite operating system! But that’s, of course, not enough. DEVONthink 2.6 adds automatic updating of indexed folders, and directly imports references from Bookends and notes from Evernote.

DEVONthink 2.6 also introduces the new document type “formatted note” that can be viewed with any web browser, and — bloggers listen up! — supports rendering Markdown. Many menus of both DEVONthink and DEVONnote have been cleaned up for clarity, synchronizing DEVONthink databases is more reliable, and the integration with the new Open With mechanism of OS X has been greatly enhanced. This release also improves many other areas of the application and brings important bug fixes.

This release is recommended for all users of DEVONthink and DEVONnote. Learn more.

Is this a free udate for DEVONthink Office Pro 2.5.2.? If so how do I install it?

  2. eboehnisch says:

Sure it’s free. And you get it, as usual, via the menu command DEVONthink Pro Office > Check for Updates. The app will also check for you periodically and let you know when it has found something.

Its a nice upgrade, thanks. 2 requests:

    1. Any chance of something like the Bookends integration for Sente

    2. The new DTTG with cloud sync…(but you knew that was coming..)

Great update! Especially automatic updating of indexed folders and markdown rendering!

    I have one suggestion/request, though:

Could you please let the user decide (via a preference setting) whether he or she wants to have “best view” or “text view” when selecting a markdown file?

I will almost exclusively use DT to view my markdown files but will edit them with external programs (vim, NValt). So for me, the reversed behavior of the actual standard behavior would be perfect, i.e. when selecting a markdown file, view it in rendered view, if you want to edit it, select the menu item “View – text view”.

  6. Stevo says:

Strange, it is not appearing in my “check for updates”. I get a “You are running DEVONthink Pro Office Edition 2.5.2. No newer version was found.”

  7. eboehnisch says:

@ Stevo: Maybe a caching issue? You can also download and replace your copy manually.

  8. […] neue Version von DEVONthink ist verfügbar. DEVONthink 2.6 bringt neben der Vorbereitung auf Apples Maverick und Fehlerbehebungen auch ein paar neue Features […]

  9. Séb says:

Hello, will the tags from Devonthink be recognized in the new tag feature of Mavericks, and vice-versa?

  10. eboehnisch says:

@ Séb: DEVONthink 2.6 imports Mavericks tags already. They are not written yet.

  11. Luke says:

When is DevonThink 3 coming out? Can’t wait.

  12. Any plans for the release of DevonThink 3 (with a possible interface redesign)?

  13. eboehnisch says:

@ Oliver Strauss: We always have plans 🙂 Have a look here for our policy for announcing them.

  14. Bascom says:

I second the request for an easy way to import references, complete with tags and notes, from Sente. This would make my life much easier and DevonThink much more useful.

  15. Thilo says:

Thank you for the update! I love the markdown support. For future upgrades a multimarkdown integration with support for tables, citations, and footnotes would be great.
    +1 for Sente

+1 for DTTG cloud sync and Sente integration please! 🙂
