How to beat up large law firms

Last week we’ve received this testimonial from a satisfied user that I have to share:

I teach a class on electronic discovery at a major law university in Michigan, USA, and I heavily use DevonThink Pro Office. Your software is insanely good for electronic discovery and lets us beat up on large law firms. It is kind of our secret weapon! — John Di Giacomo, Revision Legal, PLLC.

P.S. Make sure you don’t miss our Solutions pages. We have put together some examples on how you can effectively use DEVONthink and DEVONagent for your daily work, e.g. as a law student or attorney.

Totally agree with the testimonial based on my experience.

I agree also. I’m a barrister (UK equivalent of a trial attorney) and its revolutionised my practice on many fronts – not the least is the ability to immediately lay my hands on exactly what I need at the time I need it – and when Im prepared, have it hyperlinked to everything I need to to be better than my opponent. Many of the solicitors who send me work are contemplating getting it. It runs so fast and smooth compared with the bloated document management packages law firms get up-sold. Not sure to what extent DT see the legal community as a target market, but I really think we should be.

I used devon think to win my divorce case in 2012. it was my secret weapon as well. I used it in a myriad of ways. I shared the db with my private investigator so we were on same page as well. However, and this is a big however, I had to bend devonthink to my will to get it to work correctly. Devonthink does not handle extra fields at all. One of the most important things was filing dates for documents. I had to use the created field to work as a filing date and then setup some script to allow me to modify it manually for each filing. It was a pain, had they just supported extra fields, like a ‘filing date’, then it would have been that much faster.

Also wish devonthink supported bittorrent sync. Along with my NAS from synology, one would be able to view all their documents stored on their NAS from any device. Definitely get a synology NAS drive if you’re a serious attorney with lots of documents. It will save you lots of time. Then tie it in with devonthink for most purposes.
